It goes without saying that the lifeblood of our business is our TEAM. We are VERY lucky to have such an amazing team. In short, we are here to care for your pets like they are our own. Some words to describe our team, Caring, Compassionate, Patient, Empathetic, Fun and above all just lovely people. We are here to serve you and your pets.
Oh and we can’t forget to mention the real boss … Poppy!
She might be small, but don’t let that fool you – Poppy is the true owner and operator of Marburg Veterinary Clinic (just ask Dr. Lena Ferguson). Always keeping a watchful eye on the team, she never misses a beat and is never far from the action.
Poppy plays a vital role in clinic operations, including:
Supervising staff (especially Dr. Lena)
Handling client complaints with her signature head tilt
Providing emotional support to all patients in hospital and consult rooms
Being the most loyal lunch-break companion staff could ask for
She is quite literally all EARS when it comes to anything going on in the clinic!
In her spare time, you’ll find Poppy:
Sitting on your feet (yes, she has a foot fetish)
Gently but firmly demanding pats – she doesn’t take “no” for an answer
Snoring loudly on the manager’s office lounge
Begging adorably for snacks from the team
Loving on every puppy and kitten that walks through the doors
So next time you visit, keep an eye out for Poppy – although chances are, she’ll find you first!

I am currently working as a casual Nurse whilst studying Veterinary science at UQ- Gatton. Ever since I could walk and talk, I have loved animals. My parents sat me on the back of a horse at the age of 2 and I have never looked back. To most people their pets are family, and taking care of that family member is a huge privlege. I am passionate about veterinary medicine, in particular, and solving those tricky cases. My partner (Nathan) and I have a border collie named Ellie.
I am actually a registed Veterinarian but have chosen to work as a Vet Nurse for the time being. I have two kids. Slater who is 3 and Kalia 18 months, and my husband Ben. We have 2 dogs Lochie (Kelpie) and Millie (Border Collie)- I love the interactions with the animals and enjoy finding solutions to give the owners peace of mind that their animals will be ok. I have a fear of Trypophobia (you might need to Google it).
I love to travel and have plans to visit, Bali, Cambodia and Thailand very soon. I am very adventurous when it comes to eating foods, love trying any new foods. I have grown up with horses from a very young age on both sides of the family. My first love is my Great Dane. I have a massive fear of birds.
We would like to welcome our newest vet, Dr Madelein Taylor, to the team. She will be with us Mondays to Thursdays. Pop in sometime to say hello!
I am Canadian but I went to vet school in New Zealand. While living across the ditch I worked in mixed animal practice, but I fell in love with small animal surgery and dentistry. I decided after I had kids that I would stay doing small animal. My husband, Chris and I, along with our 2 young boys, Elliott (5) and Lucien (3), moved over here two years ago. We ended up moving to an acreage in Lowood where we are kept busy with our dalmatian, Pongo, two cats, Gandalf and Luna, our flock of chooks and large veggie garden. We are also keen diyers and are always thinking about the next project coming up. I really enjoy soft tissue surgery and dentistry and I love working with spicy kitties and staffies.
Dr Lena, BVSc (UQ) 2007, is the founder and senior veterinarian at Marburg Veterinary Clinic (est. 2010). A mixed‑animal practitioner in rural Queensland, she has a special interest in equine medicine and surgery, canine reproduction, small‑animal orthopaedics, emergency & critical care, endoscopy, ophthalmic and soft‑tissue procedures — including BOAS surgery. Passionate about solving complex cases, Dr Lena mentors her team to deliver high‑quality, compassionate care. Outside the clinic she competes with her show horses, is a devoted Frenchie mum, and raises three children: Jacob, Zara and Ruby. She enjoys meeting new clients, values clear communication and practical solutions, and never misses a chance for a good laugh.
